PC #83, MIRAGE

Neil Atwood's PC #83 MIRAGE sailing on Lake Washington,
with Mt. Rainier in the background
During WW2 the Kettenburg Boatworks built 80 fishing boats under contract with the US Army. The reason for this contract was that the Army had commandeered all the fishing boats in San Diego and elsewhere on the California coast for use in the South Pacific. The Army then asked Kettenburg to build a new fleet so California fishermen could go back to work feeding the civilian population.
Following WW2 many of the fishing trawlers were converted to personal use. One of these examples is the EAGLE.
We understand that KELPIE is currently (02/05) for sale, but we don’t have the owner’s name or number. She has quite a history of extensive open ocean passages. Her owner has been active in a national trawler association.
