History: Purchased at Lucky Peak Marina outside of Boise, Idaho in 1958. My uncle picked it out. This boat spent most of its time on Payette Lake near McCall, Idaho. I grew up with this boat. Last spring I bought it from my father and brought it down to California where I now live. I've taken the finish to bare wood and my wife and I have applied seven coats of spar varnish to the deck so far. I would appreciate any information on this dear old Kettenberg. |
History: "112" 1956-57 fiberglass
runabouts were built by the boat works "100" outboard "12" inboard. Built
by the sons of Paul apparently because they wanted to "hotrod" (not my
words). Fiberglass was just really comming out at that time and the
combination was too irresistable. A fiberglass hull with a beautiful wood
deck paired with the top outboards it was the quickest production boat at
the time. The (inboard) boats were a 55+ mph boat, inboards came with a crysler marine strait six with an updraft carb. The hull of the boats are most likely most beautiful hull I have ever seen on a boat, to this day I haven't found its equal. Blessed with a carolina type hull with a kind of rounded chine the boat plains immediately and leans agressively foreward limiting bow drag. The design of the bow lets it take on bay waves and wind easily as it must of been designed to do. It handles vary large lake waves easily without all the spray. Cornering quicker then a jet ski for its size, it was known you hold on tight sitting on the back seat or you would be ejected on a very tight turn. Apparently being too fast and light (corvette of their time) they were too much boat for the average boater to handle. Considering an accident or two by unskilled drivers and picking what projects Kettenburg wanted to stick too at the time they decided it too much trouble and did not make any more. There was very nice lit. produced for the outboard utilities. The (12) inboards were for the most part sold to those special customers also looking for a high performance boat and not really advertised at all (no lit). Some were lightly customized for the customer. The only sweet sixteen I knew of was a friends that loved the boat (as I) but sadly it was lost with his home in a tornado. Apparently he met with Paul when he lived in CA and got some info and lit. into its history. I'm not sure why anyone with a large PC wouldn't love to have one of these tied off as a little bay boat to be a grocery getter ect..... Hope some of the info helps and is correct, |

History: Bought 2004 in the summer as a wreck. Now under restoaration. Probably an early model because of the left hand steering and the smooth hull. Looking for info about this model. |
