October, 2008
Greetings to current and former
PCC owners, and friends:
WHAT'S
NEW:
"Building Kettenburgs:
Premier Boats Built and
Designed in
San Diego".
The
book was written by
Mark
Allen, and is being co-published by the Maritime
Museum of
San Diego, and
the Mystic Seaport Museum. The
book
is now at the printer, and should be
available for
purchase in early
December.
This book will be a very high
quality
"coffee table" style book. I
have read most of the
draft
copy of
this
book, and it will be a must have for
anyone interested in Kettenburg boats, or
classic yachts
in general. I'll keep
you posted on when it becomes
available.
The
Classic
Yacht Foundation (CYF) is
seeking written and
published articles, stories, pictures,
boat history/race records, and any other
information to
potentially be
included in the film documentary being produced
about
George Kettenburg Jr. Please
contact me if you think
you
have
something of
interest at: [email protected]

CURRENT
EVENTS:
2008
PCC
National
Championship:
San
Francisco,
California.
I am pleased to announce
that on the 60th
anniversary
of the formation of the
Pacific Cruising Class
Yacht Racing
Association
(PCCYRA), the 2008 Pacific
Cruising Class Championship
Race Series
was won this year
by
ROBIN, PCC #8
owned by Tom Pier. Congratulations to Tom
and
his
crew! This is the
third Class Championship won
by
ROBIN, having also
won in 1952, and
1993. The PCC
National Championship was held in
conjunction
with the
Jessica Cup
October 18th
and 19th in San Francisco, which was
co-hosted
by the St.
Francis Yacht
Club, and the Master Mariners
Benevolent
Association.
The PCCs raced
in Marconi
1 Class, with two races on Saturday, and one
long race on
Sunday. Everyone
enjoyed 15+ knot winds, flat water, and blue sky.
ROBIN
took 3rd in class in the
Jessica Cup behind SANTANA,
the
55'
yacht
formerly owned by Humphrey
Bogart.
Many thanks to Terry Klaus and the St.
Francis Yacht Club Race Committee for their effort,
and
for making slips
available at
the yacht club during
the
race.
FUTURE
EVENTS:
The
2009 Pacific
Cruising Class Championship Race Series is scheduled
to be
held in
conjunction with the
Kettenburg Regatta in San
Diego in
June. The Kettenburg
Regatta
is co-hosted by the
Southwestern Yacht Club, and the
Ancient Mariner's
Sailing
Society.
The 2009 San
Francisco Bay Area PCC Fleet Championship
is scheduled to
be held in
conjunction with the
Jessica Cup being
held in
October. The Jessica Cup is
co-hosted by the St. Francis Yacht Club, and the
Master
Mariners Benevolent
Association.
As a matter of interest: The 6
Meter
World Championship, 8 Meter
World Championship, and
12
Meter
World
Championship are being held in Newport,
Rhode Island during September 2009. I
had the opportunity
to participate
in the 12 Meter North American Championship
last month in
Newport, Rhode Island.
These yachts are
maintained in
absolute
perfect condition. And, if
you
haven't been there, Newport is "the" yachting
city, and
former home to the
America's Cup.
PCCs SOLD:
KACHINA,
PCC #23.
Joshua Berglund has sold
KACHINA to Alexander
Libbrecht .
It
isn't
known where Alex has taken the boat.
It was thought that Alex was keeping the
boat in
Sausalito, but that isn't
confirmed. If you see KACHINA, please let me
know.
