Restoration Complete!
WINGS Re-launching, April 6, 2003

The Kettenburg PC, WINGS, restoration project, which began in 2000, is nearly completed. The San Diego Maritime Museum has announced an official re-launching to be held at Koehler Kraft boatyard on Shelter Island, on April 6, 2003. Museum member, Rish Pavelec, PC #63, who has been coordinating the restoration project, announced that Paul Kettenburg would be on hand to christen WINGS for a second time. Members of the Jessop, Bone and Hartley families will be attending, as well as VIP guests, city officials and welcomed guests from the waterfront. The public is invited to view the event. Among the contributors to the restoration project are Downwind Marine, MAS Epoxies, Pacific Offshore Rigging and North Sails One Design. The accompanying photos were generously submitted by Stuart Hartley, (Stu's Art, San Diego, California). Mr. Hartley is a professional photographer and a grandson of Paul "Pappy" Hartley Sr., who owned WINGS since the 1940's and sailed her up until his death. The extended Hartley family continued to be a familiar site in San Diego Bay until WINGS was donated to the SDMM in the 1980's. Stu has many fond memories of sailing on WINGS as a child and youngster and has given enthusiastic support to the publicity and completion of the restoration project.
